Making A Difference

Why Become A Coach?

You don't need to be a netball expert to become a coach! Coaching your child's team is a great way to get involved, support their development and be part of their sporting journey.

You can learn as you go, with support and resources to help you feel confident. It's a chance to share your time, encourage young players, build their confidence and create a fun team environment.

You don't need to know everything—you just need to be willing to get involved and give it a go!

Be The Reason They Fall In Love With Netball

Your players won't remember if you ran the perfect training session, but they will remember;


❤️ Whether their coach was kind.

❤️ Whether they got to play.

❤️ Whether they felt included.

❤️ Whether they were encouraged.

❤️ Whether they had fun.

Understanding Children Aged 5-10 years

Children aged 5-7 generally have short attention spans. They;

  • Love games and imagination
  • Need lots of movement
  • Learn by copying
  • Need simple instructions
  • Can become frustrated easily


Our coaching tip:
Don't spend 10 minutes explaining an activity. Instead, show them, then let them have a go.


Children aged 7-10 years can;

  • Understand simple tactics
  • Follow instructions for longer
  • Work with teammates
  • Learn basic rules
  • Practise skills repeatedly
  • Begin to understand positions


Our coaching tip:
Keep explanations short, but gradually introduce more challenge.


The Golden Rule - KEEP THEM MOVING! 

Avoid a line of players waiting for their turn.

Instead, break into smaller groups. More action = more engagement = easier for the coach!
